- Thrilling gutbucket guitar takes on American standards JON DALE

For some time now, American guitarist Bill Orcutt has been exploring the detritus of American popular culture – previous solo albums have him taking on the core building blocks of popular idioms and reinvigorating them through an idiosyncratic take on the acoustic guitar that’s spiky, clipped and full of distracted energy. here, though, he’s on electric, and he pulls a few originals out of the bag. But it is the sideways eviscerations of “Ol’ Man River” and “Over The Rainbow” that resonate the longest.
