ShoT! – ThE PSYChoSPIRITUAL MANTRA oF RoCk
entertaining, imaginatively filmed bio-doc of high-living lensman
That’s “Rock” as in “Mick”, of course – the man whose photos of Bowie, Queen, Blondie et al redefined music’s visuals. Barnaby Clay’s moodily shot and artfully scripted feature film portrays the photographer not just as a right-place-right-time snapper, but as a vampiric, aura-hungry “big-game hunter”, a vessel for some greater cultural purpose. Mick Rock’s a kinetic presence, leading you candidly through his ’70s highs, ’80s lows and unmatched archive – including cassette interviews with Bowie and Lou Reed, and negatives of Syd Barrett’s Madcap sessions, which he memorably describes as “technically fucked”. Extras: None.
