ROSALIE SORRELS
US folk singer-songwriter (1933-2017)
In the liner notes to 1972’s Travelin’ Lady, Hunter S thompson wrote that rosalie Sorrels’ songs “are so close to the bone that I get nervous listening to them”. Sorrels recorded nearly two-dozen folk albums during her decades-long career, armed with a songbook that ranged from the deeply personal (marital problems, divorce, her son’s suicide) to the political (women’s rights, prison reform, social care). Her festival appearances included Newport Folk in 1966 and, four years later, the Isle Of Wight.
