In need of a b-side for solo single “Sweet laura lee”, singer Gary DeCarlo and producer Paul leka resurrecte­d a tune from their previous band, the Glenwoods. “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye”, co-written with Dale Frashuer, duly became a huge hit in 1969, recorded under the auspices of Steam. It topped the billboard charts and was the lead-off track for Steam’s self-titled debut lP the following year. the song was later covered by the Supremes, the belmonts and bananarama.
