FOR WHOM THE ISBEll TOIlS

- Chris Kingston, Boston

Many thanks for your awesome interview with Jason Isbell in a recent issue [Uncut, July 2017]. I’ve been a huge fan of his since first discovering his abilities on the Drive-By Truckers album The Dirty South. When he decided to go solo, I was lucky enough to catch an early show with the 400 Unit at a tiny room in Northampton, Massachusetts. Now, with the release of The Nashville Sound, I’m really hoping the world will discover what we already know… the man is a songwriting genius! This current tour promoting the new record just passed through my city last week, and even though it was a larger venue than I’d seen them play before, Isbell and the band completely destroyed the room (or in this case, tent!). They sound better than ever and look like they are genuinely enjoying themselves onstage, which is so nice for fans to see. The Nashville Sound is a tremendous blend of classic folk and heavier rock tunes that showcase just how tight the band is playing. I highly recommend you venture out to see them when they come across the pond in the fall.
