PRiNCE
Parade
Prince fascinated me more than anyone else as I was growing up in the ’80s. For me, he was the Bowie of the ’80s, a guy who was one of the biggest pop stars out there, but who confronted the expectations of his audience on an album-to-album basis. He wrote great pop songs, but with a peculiar musical vocabulary and approach to production. He was just shitting out pure music. Parade is a strange record, it has a parched production which you hear on a song like “Kiss”. Very upfront, but it still sounds amazing.
