TOMMY UDO
Rock journalist (1960–2019)
Taking his name from Richard Widmark’s character in the 1947 noir flick Kiss Of Death, Tommy Udo – aka Allan Mclachlan – started his journalistic career in his native Scotland before briefly joining
Sounds and, from 1994 onwards, enjoying a three-year stint as the
NME’S news editor. Subsequently employed at rock monthly
Metal Hammer, Udo also wrote biographies of Nine Inch Nails and Metallica.
