UNCUT

THE BIG ISSUE

-

Dylan, ’80s Floyd, Robert Smith, Prince, Will Oldham – plus a brilliant deep dive into Nick Cave’s Ghosteen album. What a great issue! As a relatively latecomer to both Uncut and Dylan (I’m only 22) I learned a lot from both the Dylan/cash story in this month’s [December] issue and also the Blood On The Tracks cover story last year. I should probably say, too, that while I prefer your usual ‘new music’ CDS, the Dylan CD last year was a fantastic primer for the Bootleg Series and the Wilco tribute album with your Jimmy Page issue was easily good enough to release in the shops!

…The December issue is an excellent read as always but one “small” error has provoked me to write to you for the very first time despite having been a reader from the start.

The Jim Sullivan track on the free CD sounds to me to be a cover of the wonderful song written by the late great John Stewart (he of “Daydream Believer” fame) and originally on his magnificent California Bloodlines album from 1969.

I had the honour and pleasure of meeting John a few times when he toured the UK. How we could use his wisdom, love and common sense right now, as well as his beautiful songs and heartfelt performances. At least we still have his albums to enjoy.

As usual in this style of comment, must be time for a Jim Sullivan feature, and while we’re at it I’ll add Butch Hancock to the request for good measure.

See you after another 271 editions! Dennis Smith, Somerset Thanks, Dennis. OK, apologies. We’ve done some digging into this and it seems that due to an unforeseen technical hitch beyond our control, the wrong credit was indeed attributed.
