Twitter-sensation Inspector rewards followers
FOOTBALLERS and singers are used to garnering huge numbers of followers on Twitter but little did Inspector David George suspect when he got involved in ‘Follow Friday’.
He promised to throw a few dance moves if he managed to top 500 followers and keen to stick to his word, the Hilingdon West sector Inspector delighted his fans.
He added: “I’m up for a laugh but as long as I get to draw attention to some serious issues.”
A HILLINGDON policeman stuck to his word by posting a video of him shaking his stuff after passing 500 followers on Twitter.
Inspector David George, who promised followers a dance should he reach the milestone, pulled out all the moves in a short routine to Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger.
The Hillingdon West sector inspector, who admits to being a bit of a Twitter novice, says the dare came about following a spot of online banter with a friend, after the officer had expressed his confusion at the concept of “Follow Friday”.
He soon posted a photo of his dancing shoes, before jokingly trying to backtrack as his Twitter following rocketed, claiming he had meant 5,000 but forgot to add the third zero.
“This has really backfired on me. I was having a bit of a giggle and thought there was no chance I’d get to 500 followers.
“But if it gets more people following us and seeing the good work we do that’s good.
Insp George won plaudits for being such a good sport, despite drawing some flak for his some might say criminal dance moves.
Hounslow’s borough commander Raj Kohli compared his efforts unfavourably to Ricky Gervais’ cringeworthyhy moves in The Office, e, tweeting “David Brent nt has been out-Brented”.
Others were morere generous, with one ne follower hailing his moves es as worthy of a promotionon and another tweeting ng #ISaluteYouSir.
There was even a suggestion that dance ce workouts should replace ce the traditional bleep test st used to gauge officers’ rs’ fitness.
Inspector George’s e’s routine begins with him m tapping his fingers on his desk, before seeminglyly getting swept away with th the rhythm and launching into full-blown dance mode.
It ends with him pretending to strain a muscle during one particularly vigorous lunge and returning to his desk in apparent discomfort.
He tweeted the video accompanied by the message: “Thank u for my 500 followers! The human behind the uniform dancin a jig”.
“I’m up for a laugh but as long as I get to draw attention to some serious issues!” he later added.
Inspector George has already passed 700 followers, and there have been plenty of suggestions for what dare he might take on to help him reach his next Twitter milestone. The early frontrunners include a skydive or another dance, this time in a pink tutu.
