A TEAM of lionhearted paediatric nurses at Hillingdon Hospital will be putting their nerves to the test when they hurl themselves out of an aeroplane to raise money.

In total, eight members of the nursing team will be conquering their fears in September with the hopes of funding new equipment for the children’s ward at the Uxbridge hospital.

So far almost £1,800 has been raised but the adventurers need the public’s help to their £5,000 target.

The hospital is currently being upgraded as its Peter Pan Ward is extended to include a special space for teenagers, a treatment room to allow privacy and four cubicles with en reach suite bathrooms.

Hillingdon’s accident and emergency ward for children has also recently undergone a major refurbishment.

Funds raised will go to the recently re-branded Hillingdon Hospitals Charity, which raises money for improvements to Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust health centres.

The charity has just launched its first website since it began in 1996, and the recently appointed charity director Andrew Bickerdike says he has big plans.

Mr Bickerdike said: “The hospitals are here for all of us when we need them most, and it’s genuinely inspiring reading the stories of patients and people who support them.

“Supporting the hospitals, and often the ward where someone was cared for, is a really personal thing for many people. It’s exciting to think what a difference we can make in the coming years with this amazing support.”

The eight paediatric nursing team members who will be throwing themselves from an aircraft for a good cause are Steve Strutton, Natasha Brennan, Mai Nguyen, Jas Khalsa, Leila Saadi, Donna Lovelock, Claire Ferebee and Hollie Summerfield.
