Romans’ winners donate £5,000 to local charities
MORE than 170 entries were submitted to a recent photography competition run by estate agency Romans, called ‘The Local Picture’, which showcased the attractions of living in the Uxbridge area.
“My fellow judges and I had to make some very tough decisions in order to pick the top three,” commented Antony Gibson, sales director at Romans and competition judge.
“We were extremely ruthless but in the end we were very happy with the winners we chose, including runner-up ‘Timeless Uxbridge’ taken by Belinda Ewart. This brilliantly edited photo captures the old and the new.”
As part of the competition prizes, Romans has donated a total of £5,000 to local charities and community groups picked by the winners, who also received John Lewis vouchers to keep for themselves.
Belinda said: “I entered straight away as I am a keen photographer. I won £200 of John Lewis vouchers which I am delighted about and I chose my local charity the 2nd Uxbridge Scout Group who do great work!
“Thank you Romans for putting on the competition and allowing people like me to enter and showcase pictures that we take on a day to day basis – I will enjoy spending the vouchers.”
The judges’ first place went to ‘Find your freedom’ by Wendy Rumble, an action shot of a jogger with her baby at the Look Out in Bracknell, who donated her money to Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service and Rosie’s Rainbow Fund.
And the second runner-up was ‘Guildford’ by Victoria Balsdon, who donated her money to Disability Africa.
The public also took part in choosing their favourite photo and cast over 10,000 votes!
The winning photo racked up an incredible 1,350 votes and goes to Alice McCarthy with ‘Looking for an adventure in Chazey Wood’, who donated £1,000 each to the Reading Samaritans and The Heights Primary School in Caversham.
