Late goal sees Uxbridge miss out on victory

-

UXBRIDGE spurned the chance to return to winning ways after twice squandering a two-goal lead in Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Bedford, writes Jon Batham.

The Reds appeared to be in cruise control at the break as Kevin Warner’s early strike and another from Wayne Carter just beyond the half hour gave them a 2-0 lead at halfway.

Bedford reduced the arears soon after the restart, but Jon-Jo Bates again gave them breathing space with 54 minutes played.

Their hosts cut the lead to one again inside the last 20 minutes and just as it seemed Tony Choules side would hang on Nathan Tshikuna snatched a draw for Bedford with two minutes left.

Southern Central neighbours Northwood also had to settle for a point when Andrew Lomas’ 19th minute opener was cancelled out before the interval as they drew 1-1 with Fleet.

Both sides were due in league action again last night, Northwood visiting Chalfont St Peter while Uxbridge entertained Kidlington.

FA Trophy action awaits them on Saturday when Northwood travel to Royston and Uxbridge entertain Harlow.

Meanwhile, in Combined Counties Premier AFC Hayes eased themselves away from the danger zone with a 2-1 win at Spelthorne Sports thanks to a second half double from Sekani McCalman – they entertain Farnham on Saturday.

And in Spartan South Midlands Division One Aaron Mcleish scored twice as Harefield too enjoyed success on the road, winning 5-2 at Arlesey Town Reserves with Elliott Dobbs, Ben Payne and Kadeem Roderique also on target.

The Hares were in cup action at Wealdstone last night and hit the road again on Saturday with a trip to Winslow.
