Warren move is inching nearer

-

AFTER five long years on the road, Hayes & Yeading United are hoping the coming weeks will see some light at the end of the tunnel regarding their ground, writes Tim Street.

Since the sale of Hayes’ old Church Road ground, the club has spent half a decade sharing at Woking and Maidenhead.

After finally moving into Yeading’s revamped Warren at the start of the season, the club then had to move out again due to the lack of a safety certificate, and have been playing home games mainly at Beaconsfield SYCOB this season.

United were hoping to make the move back to The Warren by Christmas, and while this now won’t happen, chairman Tony O’Driscoll, pictured, believes they are not far off packing their bags.

He said: “I spoke to the electricians last week [and they] said they would hopefully be able to sign their bit off by the weekend. They didn’t do that so I will be chasing them up this week.

“The actual work we needed doing is complete, we just need to get it signed off, and we’re keen to get the paperwork in to the council before Christmas.

“Once we have the certificate, we can play there, but it can take anything up to 40 days for the council to issue it.

“Hopefully it won’t take that long, but we can lay some tarmac, which is the only other thing that needs doing, in the meantime.”

There was some relief for United on Saturday in the shape of a goalless draw at Stratford Town following three Southern Premier defeats in a row, making the 5-1 win over St Neots a short-lived turnaro turnaround for new bo bosses Paul Hughe Hughes and Richie Hanlon.

O’D O’Driscoll added added: “They are de definitely the right p people for the job job, they just need to be given time and the chance to bed in th the players they have signed.”

United are due to travel to Cockfosters in the M Middlesex Charit Charity Cup tomor tomorrow night befo before hosting Slo Slough Town at B Beaconsfield SY SYCOB next T Tuesday.
