JOIN OLYMPIAN DON FOR TEA AND A TWIRL

TEA DANCERS HAVE PROVED THAT AGE IS NO BARRIER AND NOW THEY NEED YOU...

-

WHEN former Olympian Don McKellow and his wife Beryl retired nearly 30 years ago, little did they know that their new hobby of dancing would turn into more than a pastime.

Mr and Mrs Melody, as they are also known, regularly hold tea dances in the local area and are looking for new dancers to join their Tuesday afternoon Tea Dance at Yiewsley and West Drayton Community Centre.

It doesn’t matter if your knowledge of dancing is rusty or limited, as Don and Beryl, now 92, will teach you the steps or you can just pop along for a cup of tea and biscuits.

Don, a former cyclist who competed in the 1,000 metre time trial event at the 1952 summer Olympics in Helsinki, said: “At our age it’s important to stay fit both actively and mentally.

“The social side of dancing keeps us young and we’ve made so many friends from it. We are a small group but we know that West Drayton and the local area have lots of men and women who sit at home, isolated, but still have the ability to dance or just want to enjoy the social side and music.

“Our ages range from early 50s to 94, so age is not a barrier.”

If you fancy doing a wicked waltz or other scandalous dances go along on Tuesdays to West Drayton Community Centre, Oscar Frey Hall, at 2pm or contact Don on 01895 422776. Tickets cost £3.50.
