A sea of rubbish and ‘toxic waste’
‘MILE LONG’ TRAIL OF WASHING MACHINES, RUBBLE, FRIDGES AND TYRES FOUND ON PATH IN HILLINGDON
A “SEA of rubbish and toxic waste” has been found dumped outside Heathrow Airport.
The enormous fly tip, encompassing washing machines, fridges, tyres and bags of rubbish completely covered a path near where the Colnbrook Bypass (A4) meets the M25 in Hillingdon.
Fabian Fojo found the dumpsite tip on Tuesday (August 22), which is also worryingly near Wraysbury River.
He told the Gazette: “A mile’s worth of rubbish was thrown all over the path.
“There are bags full with asbestos opened and exposed to the atmosphere. The extent of the damage to the nature is such that even the Wraysbury River passing at that level is clogged with washing machines and fridges.
“It’s literally a sea of rubbish and toxic waste.”
Within the vicinity of the illegal dumpsite, there is also another major accumulation of tyres and household equipment, according to Mr Fojo.
He added: “There is rubbish as far as the eye can see, literally.”
A Hillingdon Council spokesman said: “We will be removing the illegally dumped waste as quickly as possible and will take additional steps to prevent this happening in the future.
“We take a zero tolerance approach to all anti-social behaviour including fly-tipping, which is one of the most complained about issues and one of the most costly to the public purse.
“In the past year we have spent more than half a million pounds on clearing fly-tipping and keeping our neighbourhoods clean for residents.
“We are doing all we can to prevent fly-tipping, including stepping up our use of CCTV, and we will take action against anyone caught doing it.
“We urge everyone to report flytipping as soon as possible.”
