Back to school for Baddiel

AUTHOR AND COMEDIAN PAYS A VISIT TO NORTHWOOD

A TOP comedian and author went to school in Northwood for the day last week.

David Baddiel joined pupils at for a school lunch on Thursday at St Martin’s Preparator­y School in Moor Park Road, before giving a talk, reading some extracts and signing books.

He spoke on the recurrent theme of wish fulfilment in his stories. David Baddiel asked the boys which celebrity parents they would like to be adopted by for a day, before declaring that he would choose Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip because, “I would like to go to Buckingham Palace and eat swan.”

The character from his books that David Baddiel would most like to become would be Ludwig – the father pig.

The boys were enthusiast­ic about his visit.

Pavan Rupasinghe in Year 5 (age 10) said, “He made everyone happy by making us all laugh.”

Sunjay Ahluwalia, also in Year 5 agreed, “It was very enjoyable. I was excited as I got three books signed by him.”

The talk kept the boys entertaine­d, “I liked the comic style introducti­on and the readings,” said Prasathen Sothirajah in Year 5. Arun Mahendrara­jah in Year 5 commented, “I liked hearing how he came up with his ideas.”

The visit was organised by the St Martin’s School librarian, Mrs Oldroyd-Elliot in conjunctio­n with Chorleywoo­d Bookshop.
