ANIMAL MATTERS

-

SPRING is in the air – and kitten season is just around the corner!

Last year, almost 200 stray and unwanted kittens came into our Branch alone. Nationally the problem is enormous, putting a huge strain on the resources of rescue centres. Please help by neutering your cats to prevent unwanted litters.

By neutering just 1 male and 1 female cat, more than 2000 unwanted births can be prevented in four years. A kitten can become pregnant at four months of age and a female can conceive again within days of giving birth.

Un-neutered cats wandering off in search of love, account for many of the cats going missing or suffering serious injuries every year. Cats will mate with any relatives including siblings, parents and offspring.

For assistance or advice on neutering your cat please call our Hillingdon Clinic on 01895 231435.

Appeal for bedding and containers

Could you help us with any clean bedding that you no longer need? Duvets, blankets and covers are all gratefully received! We also need clean plastic food containers to use as bowls. Please drop them at our Hillingdon Clinic, Crescent Parade, or any of our shops in Hillingdon, Cippenham or Ashford.

Say “No” to school egg hatching

We often receive requests from schools to take in unwanted chicks (particularly males) that have been hatched in incubators as part of school projects. They have no homes to go to and are sometimes sick or deformed due to inappropriate care.

The RSPCA opposes breeding animals in schools and we would urge teachers and parents not to support these activities. It is difficult to guarantee the welfare of breeding animals under school conditions and the RSPCA believes that such programmes do not promote responsible attitudes to animal care and husbandry. See www.rspca.org.uk/ education for information.

We are holding a quiz at Uxbridge Sports Club (UB8 1NR) on Thursday April 19 at 7.30 pm. Tickets are just £5 and food/ drinks can be bought at the bar. Join us for a fun evening and help raise funds to support the work we do for local animals. Call 01895 833417 for details.

Quiz night Looking for loving home

Logan (tabby) and Felix (black and white), are a closely bonded pair of boys who sadly lost their home due to their owner’s ill-health. At 13 years of age they are now in desperate need of a loving retirement home.

Logan lost a limb but has totally adapted to only having 3 legs and enjoys doing all the normal things that cats get up to. He is currently a little nervous and looks to his more confident friend Felix to lead the way, but a little love and patience will help him to come out of his shell. The boys would benefit from a fairly quiet home, without other pets or young children.

Understandably Logan and Felix are missing their home comforts and the all-important love of a special person.

Could you offer the purrfect home to this lovely pair and make their world whole again?

If you can offer a loving home to any of our animals, please call us on 01895 833417 or visit www.rspcahillingdonclinic.org.uk to apply.
