Fundraiser dedicated to Brendan

-

DOGS Trust Harefield held a fundraising event in memory of their longest serving volunteer who died last year.

The day’s activities, on March 24, were dedicated to Brendan White, and included a raffle, cake sale and a doggy tombola.

Brendan became an integral part of the team at the West London rehoming centre, giving up 10,000 hours of his time to care for the dogs over 11 years.

Money raised from the event will go towards the creation of an area on the grounds of the rehoming centre where his two and four-legged friends can visit and remember him.

Jo Lloyd, assistant manager at Dogs Trust Harefield, said: “Brendan’s passing was a huge loss to the rehoming centre and for the four-legged friends he used to care for. He had such a unique and special bond with our longer-term dogs – a strong bond of trust and friendship that had developed over the 11 years that they spent together. Brendan was such a valued part of Dogs Trust Harefield.

“A loyal and committed volunteer, Brendan came in to help us five days a week without fail. As he didn’t have many family members, he became part of our Dogs Trust family.

“Everyone knew and respected Brendan – he was such a kind-hearted man who did so much for our dogs. We’re eternally grateful for his support and he is deeply missed by us all. We are delighted that the money raised from the event will go towards a special area at the centre where we can go to remember him.”

The event raised more than £700 and fellow volunteers Matt Fitzgerald and Nikki Brown donated an additional £5,000 to the rehoming centre in his memory.
