YOU CAN’T FAWLT THIS PROPERTY

-

If comedy fans were ever concerned that comedian, actor and Monty Python co-founder John Cleese was going to retire quietly, then it’s clear they have little to worry about.

The 78-year-old has rarely been off the screen or stage since he first came to prominence during the 1960s, when he worked initially on The Frost Report. He later also helped established – with Cambridge chums – the revue that would eventually turn into the Monty Python juggernaut. It has been pretty much non-stop since then including starring and co-writing the TV series Fawlty Towers, several movie successes including A Fish Called Wanda, Clockwise, Fierce Creatures and three Shrek movies, plus playing Q in several Bond films.

His personal life has been equally energetic. Initially married to actress Connie Booth, with whom he co-created Fawlty Towers, he has married twice more, the most recent costing him a £12 million divorce settlement.

This prompted him to embark on a busy global tour of his one-man show, which is still under way in the US.

Cleese spends a lot of time in America and Monaco but a year ago bought a Grade II listed house in Bath near its Royal Crescent. Now it’s for sale.

The 1825 property has five bedrooms, period features and extraordinary views from its upper floors.

■ For sale with agent Cobb Farr (01225 686089) at £2.7 million.
