Stones catch the eye with Dartford victory

-

WEALDSTONE’S progress so far this National League South campaign was plainly evident for all to see at Princes Park as they beat Dartford 3-0.

Two first-half goals from Bradley Bubb and a magnificent strike from Jeffrey Monakana ensured all three points for the Stones, a result that will surely make the rest of the league sit up and take notice that Bobby Wilkinson’s side will not be satisfied making up the numbers in a tough and competitive league.

Wilkinson said: “From start to finish we were outstanding. We’ve been working extra hard behind the scenes to show our ability and that was for everyone at the club who has supported me, the management team and all the players.

“You always set up for clean sheets away from home, but to get three goals and the manner of two of them were unbelievable.”

Wilkinson had brought in Bubb in place of Stevenage loanee striker Joe White for this tricky encounter and the move paid dividends with the former Ebbsfleet striker scoring two excellent goals to give his side a strong first half lead. Bubb took advantage of some lax Dartford defending to put Stones ahead from an acute angle and netted again from close range on the half-hour mark after David Pratt’s.

Monkana sealed the match early in the second period with a superb strike. The midfielder cut in from the left and found the back of the net via the underside of the bar from 25 yards out.

Elsewhere, Hillingdon Borough produced a magnificent second-half display to beat Buckingham Athletic 5-2 in the Spartan South Midlands Division One.

The visitors struck first after 15 minutes when Sam Olewale latched onto a long ball and slotted home. Boro hit back just before the interval as Marcus Greenidge expertly lobbed the Buckingham keeper.

His goal before half time galvanized Boro as Greenidge struck again in the 58th minute, his brilliant control in the box and lob put Boro in the lead. Fellow striker Sean Peters soon made it three and rampant Boro finished off the visitors late on through Paul Murphy and captain Calvin Harrison, with the visitors scoring a consolation in injury time.

Boss Kurtice Herbert said: “We are not a side who parks the bus when we have a lead of two or three goals, we want to be as expressive as possible on the pitch and today showed that. It was only right that we searched for more goals.”
