Hughes praises ‘endeavour and work rate’

-

IN-FORM Isthmian League South Central outfit Hayes & Yeading United completed a win double which took them to the top of the table.

After comprehensively dispatching Uxbridge 5-0 in midweek, Paul Hughes’ side travelled to Ware and won 3-1 with two from goal machine Lee Barney and another from Duncan Culley.

Hughes said: “It’s the second time this year we’ve arrived at a club where they’ve not lost at home all season. We matched them for endeavour and work-rate and this allowed our quality to shine through.

“As long as we keep paying our opponents that initial respect, and we match them in those departments, we will be a very difficult team to turn over.

“I was very happy with how many chances we created. We have a number of different angles to attack from, especially when you add our wing-backs’ delivery to the mix.

“The win puts us top which is, of course, great for confidence levels and is just reward for the players hard work in training and matches.

“If we want to win things this year then we need to enjoy the graft and enjoy the hard work. From our experience, there are no shortcuts in this game.

“If we keep the current work ethic and continue to believe in our ability then we will have every chance of maintaining our current run of form.”

On Saturday, Hayes travel to Southern League Premier Division side Banbury Town in the FA Trophy second qualifying round.
