YOU can rely on the animal centre, Mayhew, to have a full set of celebrations lined up before Christmas and they don’t disappoint.

Approaching fast, is their Christmas Fair on Sunday November 25 (noon to 4pm). There will be festive stalls, musical entertainment and a chance to look behind the scenes at the home. Admission is £3 or concessions £2. Mayhew is at Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green NW10 6BJ.

Following that, Mayhew invites us to take part in London’s iconic Santa Run – Santa in the City. On Thursday December 6 starting at 7pm, we have the opportunity to join in the 5k Santa Run in aid of Mayhew. Masses of runners, dressed as Father Christmas (Santa suit provided), will run past some of London’s famous landmarks in aid of various charities. To run in aid of Mayhew, the registration fee is £15 and Mayhew ask that you raise a minimum of £200 for their animal welfare work. They will help you with your fundraising and give you regular updates. More details from events@mayhewanimalhome.org or call 020 8206 5872.

Following hot on the heels of the Santa Run, Mayhew is organising a new event this year. On Thursday December 13 (7pm), they are holding a carol service at St Giles in the Field WC2H 8LG. As well as carols, there will be readings from special guests, mince pies and mulled wine. Adult tickets are £30, concessions £10. Tickets are available from themayhew.org.

All these events are needed in order to raise funds for the valuable work Mayhew do helping neglected, unwanted and abandoned animals in this country and abroad. They also help vulnerable pet owners and their pets including the homeless as well as running their busy vet clinic which specialises in preventative care such as neutering.

One of the animals currently benefitting from Mayhew’s care is Missy, a dobermann cross pointer. Missy came into the care of Mayhew because of her owner’s ill-health. She is intelligent, affectionate and builds very strong bonds. She is an active dog who is looking for an experienced, active owner. Missy can sometimes be grumpy round other dogs so Mayhew want to find her a home in a low-dog populated area, so she can enjoy walks without constantly coming into contact with other dogs.

She’s been known to howl when left home alone so she will need a home where someone is around during the day.
