Spidernets’ doubles tournament a success

A DOUBLES badminton tournament was organised by Raj Marwaha of Heathrow Spidernets Badminton Club.

The competitio­n featured males, females and juniors, with a total of 31 taking part, split across five badminton courts according to their standard of play.

All matches were doubles played up to 21 points, rotating with each player. The player who won the most games on their court won the match and the first runner-up.

On court one Dantis Stephen won eight, Harish Narayanan one, Mehul Amlani five, Suraj Babu four, Umar Khan six and Anthony Joseph six. Stephen was therefore the winner, followed by Khan (190 points across his games) then Joseph, who was the second runner up having scored 180 points.

On court two Anandha Malairaj won five, Artur Baginski four, Gurpreet Thind two, Jasbeer Yadalle, seven, Stanley Fernandes three and Vishvesh Shende nine.

Shende picked up the win, Yadalle was runner-up and Malairaj was third.

On court three, Hamza Katib won nine, Harminder Singhfour, Michael Daley three, Mitali Chauhan two, Serge Gonzalez nine, Smitha Allanku six and Gabriel Kiss nine.

As it was a draw between three players the points were calculated and Katib (175pts) was top, Kiss (165) second and Gonzalez (164) third.

Court three saw Geethika Allanku win four, Mark Alvin Retardo seven, Praveen Kothakota six, Rakesh Lad seven, Sam Devine two and Shindi Pandher four.

Lad was declared the winner, Retardo second and Kothakota third. As for court five, Aryan Ladwon won five, Callum Napier four, Jack Burke four, Ravi Shankar seven, Tim Leakey three and Vijay Dadhich seven. Shankar was the winner overall, Dadhich was second and Lad third.

Heathrow Spidernets Badminton Club plays every Saturday from 2pm to 6pm at Cranford Community School Sports Hall.
