GOLFER CELEBRATES RARE FEAT OF BACK-TO-BACK HOLES IN ONE
A MEMBER of Hillingdon Golf Club bagged a rare feat while beating odds of an estimated 27 million to one.
Not many players enjoy a hole in one in their lifetime, but for Andy Bagley it was like the proverbial buses as two came at once.
Playing with his partner Tom Mahon, he scored his first ever ace on the par three 14th (second time around on a nine-hole course) and before he even had the chance to celebrate that amazing achievement, he went and did it again on the very next hole, the 15th.
Back-to-back birdies is one thing, but back-to-back eagles being completed in such a way is as rare as politicians agreeing with each other.
“Not many people manage to do it at all, let alone twice in consecutive holes,” said general manager and club professional, Phil Smith.
Bagley has been a member at Hillingdon Golf Club for 16 years and has been playing golf for 30 years. Playing off a 10 handicap, he continued his round shooting his best ever score of three-under-par 65.
“It was unbelievable to witness this fantastic event,” said Mahon.
Hillingdon was founded in 1892 and is considered to be the oldest nine-hole club in Middlesex.
The beautiful course is set in the heart of parkland and presents a fair, but demanding, challenge for golfers of all levels and experience.
Incredibly, Smith had his own unique moment back on August 7 2011 at the course.
Playing with club captain Paul Harris at the time, Harris aced the sixth (or 15th) in spectacular style.
If that was not enough of a shock, Smith then astounded everyone by holing out from the sixth tee with the very next shot to make it an incredible double.
Not even defeat for Harris and Smith in their ‘Captain and Pro Challenge’ match that day, against husband and wife pair Karen and Phil Richardson, could dampen their enthusiasm for this amazing feat.
