A load of rubbish
PILES OF FLY-TYIPPED WASTE DUMPED AT INDUSTRIAL ESTATE
THREE warehouses on the Uxbridge Industrial Estate in Hillingdon are allegedly being used as makeshift rubbish dumps by travellers.
It is understood that the travellers are allowing lorries to turn up each day and dump anything from sofas to bathroom toilets.
Local residents have been so concerned about the activity that they have contacted the police, council and the environmental health about the issue. They allege the warehouses and the forecourt of unit 2 of the Uxbridge Industrial Estate on Ashley Road are currently being occupied by travellers with two caravans parked up.
One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, told MyLondon: “The caravans first arrived at the property on Saturday, August 3 but left on Friday, August 9 only to then return the next day.
“They have no consideration for the laws of the land.
“They even put their own padlock on the gate despite the warehouse being private property.”
“In the past there had been security at the unit but they left when the property was let.”
In the last few weeks travellers have allegedly been seen at the Sainsbury’s on York Road and Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex on Gatting Way in Uxbridge.
When MyLondon contacted Hillingdon Council to ask about reports of travellers in the area and the rubbish dumping on Uxbridge Industrial Estate, a spokesperson said: “We haven’t received any reports of travellers at Hillingdon Leisure Centre.
“The other sites are privately owned and we are offering the landowners advice and helping to monitor the situation. We take a zero tolerance approach to invasions of our land or property, and our security and enforcement teams deal with these matters as quickly as possible.
“We also recently obtained a High Court injunction to give us stronger powers to protect public land.”
When MyLondon contacted Sainsbury’s head office they confirmed travellers had been on site but they had moved on several weeks ago.
