VW ID.3

VOLKSWAGEN has revealed its first all-electric vehicle aimed at the mass market – the ID.3 was shown off at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week, and VW says it will hit the market next summer.

The price will be “under €30,000”, and the car looks like a mildly-futuristic Golf.

The base model of the ID.3 will sport a 45kWh battery offering just over 200 miles of range.

Larger batteries will offer up to 340 miles of range on a single charge, although VW hasn’t yet said how much they will cost.

In launching the car VW said it marked a real turning point for the company – it’s the first one to be built on its new mutual electric platform, which will be the base on which several new all-electric vehicles will be built. VW is serious about its push into electric vehicles and this is just the start.

POLAROID FOR PHONES

OF ALL the devices you didn’t know you needed, Polaroid’s new Lab printer might be the strangest.

Essentially, it’s a Polaroid instant camera, modified to take photos of photos on your phone.

You position your phone, with the image you want displayed, on top of the device, then snap a photo of it, which it then prints out on Polaroid instant film.

It’s taking the fashion for making smartphone photos look old using filters to the next level, and might very well appeal to fashionable hipsters with too much money.

Having said that, when it comes out later this year, it’ll cost somewhere around the £100-mark – so perhaps all of us can be in on the retro fun.
