CIAMPINI CELEBRATES WITH HIGH FIVE ON HIS RETURN

-

ATTILIO CIAMPINI has been on a roll, coming back this year with a bang to win five bowls titles while playing for Uxbridge BC.

The Italian, who was born in Montreal, Canada, and now lives in Ruislip, suffered a major heart attack in September 2017 and has recovered to return to his former glorious form thanks to his enormous positivity, appetite for life and determination to put his health issues behind him.

Dedicated to his sport, his best ever season was in 2015 when he won a staggering eight titles to earn national acclaim.

“I’ve come back stronger than ever,” he said.

“There are those who thought I wouldn’t be the same player but I haven’t done so bad.”

Ciampini was formerly a golf professional and has transferred those skills onto the bowling green.

“I have good hand/eye coordination,” he said.

“But in bowls you can have all the skills and play as much as you can but there is always an element of luck. Yes it’s about line and length, but don’t forget that third L – luck.”

He won two from three Hillingdon Borough singles titles, the club championship and two more in the Harrow & District four woods and two woods to complete a five-star season.

He lost in the three final too, the one competition that grates with Attilio.

“I didn’t deserve to lose and it hurts,” he said.

“A couple of times I was holding four shots [lead]. For two-and-a-half hours my opponent was never ahead.

“I went from four shots up to one down, but that’s bowls. I also qualified for two national competitions in Leamington Spa this year and went out in the early rounds.

“So it’s been a brilliant season for me. I have loved the chase. It’s been good.”
