THE police watchdog is investigating after a police car hit and seriously injured two pedestrians using a road crossing in Hounslow.

A man, aged 23, is “in a life-threatening condition” in hospital.

A 16-year-old boy was also seriously injured shortly after midnight on Friday November 1 on Whitton Road - outside Hounslow National Rail station.

A spokesperson for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said it is thought the pair were using a pedestrian crossing when they were hit.

The spokesperson confirmed the IOPC is investigating the circumstances.

The spokesperson said: “A 16-yearold boy and a 23-year-old man were hit by the marked car and sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

“The man is in a life-threatening condition.

“Initial information suggests the man and boy were using a pedestrian crossing when they were hit by the police car.

“Following referral from the Metropolitan Police Service, we sent investigators to the scene to begin gathering evidence.”

Whitton Road was still closed in the morning, with commuters at Hounslow Railway Station unable to enter and exit from platform one until the closure was lifted at around 8am.

In a statement from police a spokesperson said: “We are aware that this is a traumatic time for the families and we continue to offer them our full support.

“The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating and the Met remains fully cooperative with their enquiries.”
