Celebrating the music of an empire

-

FOR their next performance the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra invites you to a special concert celebrating music from the countries of the Hapsburg Empire.

The programme will include Dvorák’s magnificent Cello Concerto, for which the Orchestra are delighted to be joined by soloist Indira Grier.

A recipient of numerous international prizes, Indira has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across the UK and Europe and participated in masterclasses with classical stars including Steven Isserlis.

Prior to the Cello Concerto, the concert will open with Suppé’s Poet and Peasant Overture, one of the composer’s most popular operetta overtures.

A selection of Dvorák’s Slavonic

Dances will take us back to Bohemia for the second half, prior to a trip to Hungary for Kodaly’s Háry János Suite. Dreamlike and fantastic, this work has been said to show Kodaly’s talent for painting in impressionistic orchestral colours.

This concert will launch the 34th Season the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra.

The group is now well established in the local area with over 60 registered members, having performed an incredibly wide and varied repertoire of works over the years.

In addition to countless concerts at local venues throughout Hillingdon, the group has also performed at some of London’s most prestigious venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Southwark Cathedral. In July 2011 the group celebrated 25 years of music making at the Cadogan Hall in Sloane Square.
