Brawl suspect’s dog bites policeman in the groin

-

A POLICE officer was rushed to hospital after being by a dog in the thigh and groin in West London .

Metropolitan Police officers were attending the scene of a brawl involving guns and knives on Bath Road, Harlington, shortly before midnight on Friday November 22.

Armed police were sent as reports suggested the suspects were armed.

By the time officers arrived the suspects had fled but one man then returned with a dog and used aggressive words towards them.

He was chased and during this he let loose his dog who promptly bit a male police constable in the “thigh and groin area”.

The officer needed stitches following the bite and is off work for now so he can recover.

In a statement the Metropolitan Police said: “The dog-owner, aged 33, was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH), affray, common assault and having a dangerous dog in public.

“He was taken into custody and subsequently bailed pending further enquiries. He was released with no further action regarding the GBH offence.

Chief Superintendent Pete Gardner, West Area commander, said: “This incident is a stark reminder of the threat faced by police and I’d like to commend the bravery of this officer in dealing with a violent suspect and their dog.

“Our officers should be able to go about their lawful duty without the threat of violence and we will do everything we can to bring to justice any person who assaults or causes injury to a police officer.”

The dog was seized and taken to a west London police station.
