Dramatic rescue after man is discovered frail and bedridden
THE MAN HAD NO FOOD IN HIS HOUSE AND ELECTRICITY HAD BEEN CUT OFF FOR 18 MONTHS
A BEDRIDDEN West London man who went without electricity for 18 months was rescued by the police in dramatic fashion.
Officers had to force entry to the poor man’s home on Watermead, Feltham, after they got no reply despite repeatedly knocking.
When they entered on Tuesday, October 20, they found the man in his 50s, bedridden and in a “very frail and weakened” state.
They also found that he had no food in the house and the electricity had been cut off 18 months before. Police went to his house after being tipped off by concerned local housing officers. An ambulance was called and the local Tesco donated a care package of food for him.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “On Tuesday, October 20, police officers from the London Borough of Hounslow partnership team attended an address on Watermead, Feltham to check on the welfare of a resident.
“Local housing officers informed police that they were worried for the resident, a man in his 50s, after he had not been seen for some time.
“Police attended and got no reply after knocking at the front door. Due to the circumstances, officers forced entry to the property.
“Once inside, the man was located in a very frail and weakened state. It was also discovered that there was no food in the address and the electricity supply had been disconnected some 18 months previously.
“The officers immediately put things in place to safeguard the man. An ambulance was called and officers visited a local Tesco on Faggs Road, Feltham who very kindly donated a care package of food for him.
“Thanks to a partnership approach the resident is now receiving the care he needs.”
