Animal Rescue with Marion Garnett

Dedicated animal expert Marion Garnett, founder of the Ealing Animal Charities Fair, continues her column

IF YOU’RE reading this column in a newspaper rather than online, think twice before you put the newspaper out for recycling.

Hillingdon RSPCA are desperate for newspapers and would very much like unwanted newspapers to be dropped off at one of their shops. While you’re there you could give yourself a treat by snapping up one of their bargains. Shop locations include Crescent Parade, Hillingdon and Station Parade, Denham Green.

Hillingdon RSPCA do the most amazing work. Since the closure of the RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital and Southall Clinic and Cat Adoption Centre, their work in our locality has become even more important and we need to do all we can to support them. They treat poorly animals in their busy clinic.

They also care for animals who are waiting for a new home. Just two of the animals currently waiting to be rehomed are Isla who came into Hillingdon RSPCA’s care after her owner could no longer care for her and Twinky who came into their care after her owner passed away.

Both beautiful cats are looking for a home where they can get lots of love and attention.

If you’re interested in homing Isla or Twinky, see rspca.org.uk or call 01895 833417.

As the summer holidays approach, don’t forget the RSPCA has masses of ideas to keep children occupied. For a start there’s their Young Photographers Awards competition for young people aged 18 or under and are a UK resident. This is a high-profile competition with winning images often making the front page of newspapers.

There are seven different categories including Pet Personalities, Pet Portraits, Small World and Portfolio. Also included are useful tips on how to take good photographs including from Chris Packham who is one of the judges. For more details see young.rspca.org.uk.

Other activities for children and young people outlined online by the RSPCA include quizzes and puzzles as well as how to make things such as a calendar for your pets needs or a bird feeder.

Finally, since lockdown, opportunities when we can get together and have a day out at an animal welfare event have been in short supply so it’s good to know the charity All
