Barry Horns to root and toot for Wales pitchside

-

WELSH fans – as well as the team’s unofficial band – can make Chris Coleman’s team feel as if they’re playing at home in their Euro 2016 games.

That is the prediction of one of the members of brass band The Barry Horns, which over the past five years has become a familiar sound on the terraces at Wales matches.

Founded in 2011, the band – named in homage to ex-Wales international Barry Horne – will have 10 members performing at each of Wales’ games at the tournament, after last week securing permission to do so from tournament organisers, following lobbying from the FAW.

The group also plan to perform in French city centres before and after Wales’ games.

And Fez, a trumpet player in the band, vowed: “We are going to turn every group game into a home match.”

England have their own brass band, but the Barry Horns offer something very different – and argu- ably a lot more upbeat. “Wales v England is either the ultimate dream or a nightmare – there’s not much middle ground,” Fez said.

“It’s going to be electric. We want to make our contribution. If we go 1-0 down, for example, we will keep playing to try and keep spirits up.”

The Barry Horns this week released their Euro 2016 single, a feel-good summer party anthem which name-checks a number of Welsh towns from Usk to Rhosneigr.
