THE 2-4 PARTY PEOPLE

Super Furry Animal Bunf brings back raves... for children

-

THEY’RE the family y raves that are sweeping the nation – andd now they’re taking offff in Wales, thanks to a member r of Super Furry Animals.

Furries’ guitarist Huww “Bunf” Bunford and his part- ner Tabitha Orwin are the franchise holders for Big Fish Little Fish – the music and eventss crew whose brilliant slogan is 2-4 Party People – that put onn family raves with all the freeedom and excitement of a miniifestival, in the hearts of cities and towns.

Since launching last year, Big Fish Little Fish has become so successful it has moved to a larger venue and will next week see its biggest event yet held at new Cardiff venue, The Tramshed.

“We held our first events at Clwb Ifor Bach and they sold out and were packed,” said Bunf. “So we decided we had to move the night to a new larger venue to meet the demand. Clwb has been brilliant for us, but The Tramshed can offer us that bigger space and is such a lovely venue.”

Bunf and Tabitha fell in love with the Big Fish Little Fish concept when they were living in London and attended a family rave in Balham, South London.

“Having three kids we are always looking for things to do with them and one Sunday we were met with the same quandary of where could we take them.

“I read about Big Fish Little Fish, took them along, we all loved it and that was the start,” said the musician. “I loved the concept and the fact there was so much for the kids to do.”

What you can expect at a Big Fish Little Fish family rave is not just top DJs playing club classics, but also bubble machines, club visuals, giant balloons and a giant parachute dance. There is also a large arts and crafts area with themed crafts, giant colouring mural and play-doh table as well as face-painting and a play area with tents, tunnels and inflatables.

And like an old school ra rave there’s even a chillo out room with soft mats, b beanbags and ball pool fo for tiny tots and babies.

Returning to live in Cardiff in 2015, Bunf, Tabitha and their three ch children aged, 10, eight and nine, wasted no time in launching Big Fish Little Fish concept at the first events in Clwb – a busy time for the guitarist, who was also immersed in rehearsals for the return of Super Furry Animals after a break of six years.

The guitarist admitted there is an element of nostalgia for some adults reliving the halcyon days of their youth waving their hands in the air like they just don’t care – but the kids love the music too.

“The mums and dads really get into it and you can tell who the old school ravers are by some of the shapes being thrown on the dancefloor – most of which I’ve haven’t seen since the ’90s,” laughed Bunf.

“But kids love the sound of rave music – the rise and the fall, the build up and then the drop of the sound is something that instantly hooks them in.”

For the next Big Fish Little Fish event at the Tramshed on Sunday, June 12, you can expect to see Bunf manning the wheels of steel and even firing a cannon.

“Don’t worry it’s a confetti cannon, no-one is in danger and, as you can imagine, the children love it,” said Bunf.

The musician has even put his kids to work at Big Fish Little Fish.

“They love to get involved, so if you come along and see children wearing high-vis jackets they’re mine – you’ve got to start them early, haven’t you!”

BFLF Carnival Rave takes place at The Tramshed, Cardiff, on Sunday, June 12, 2pm-4.30pm. Super Furry Animals’ Bunf and Daf will be DJ’ing along with special guest Kris Jenkins.
