UWA Commoners consolidat­ed their position at the top of the West Wales Conference when they overwhelme­d nearest rivals Llanwrda by 105 runs yesterday.

Put into bat the Commoners were dismissed for 209 in the 39th over with Umar Aslam top scoring with 89 which included 10 fours and three sixes.

Rakesh Bhatia hit a quick-fire 39 which comprised eight fours. James Morgan took 3-10 and Dave Davies 2-31.

Llanwrda were never in contention and managed only a meagre 104 off 31 overs. Teenager Asian Nicholas hit an unbeaten 31 and Morgan scored 25.

On the bowling front Abi Shek captured 5-29 and Ian Lawton 3-23.

Aberystwyt­h were on song as they crushed Tregaron by six wickets.

Tregaron, put into bat were skittled out for 119 in 34 overs with Dave Davies taking four wickets and captain Pat Daniels , a left-arm seamer three.

Aber reached their target for the loss of four wickets in 30.1 overs. Andi Price hit an unbeaten 50 while slow bowler Alun Hughes took three wickets in a nine-over spell.

Elsewhere Talybont won by 46 runs against Aberystwyt­h seconds after batting first and scoring 197 after which the Aber side managed only 151-8 off their allotted overs.

Today Dolgellau are scheduled to face Aberaeron.
