PENARTH are back on top of Thomas Carroll Insurance South Wales Premier League Division Two after a crushing 118-run home win over Carmarthen Wanderers.

The hosts were inserted after losing the toss but went on to put 283-5 on the scoreboard from their 50 overs, with Ali Bukkhari leading the way with an unbeaten ton.

Bukkhari, batting at four, smashed 13 fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 116 off 79 balls after opener Tom Sidford had earlier hit 79 for the hosts.

Gareth Thomas top scored with 36 in reply for the Wanderers, with Steff James chipping in with 29, but they were eventually bowled out or 165.

Bukkhari capped a fine all-round individual display with 4-13 off his eightover spell, which also included three maidens, while Richard Skone bagged 3-26.

Penarth have gone back to the top after morning leaders Panteg had to settle for a winning draw at home against winless Clydach.

After being put in, Panteg posted 249-6 off their allotted overs, led by 63 from opener Lloyd Smith while skipper Ian Bird chipped in with a useful 40 as James Garland took 2-27.

In reply Clydach – last season’s South Wales Cricket Associatio­n Division One champions – finished on 1928, with Garland hitting six fours in his top score of 57, while Chris Mee and Chris White picked up two wickets apiece.

St Fagans earned a winning draw at home against Aberdare while the clash between Pentyrch and Miskin Manor along with Tondu and Ynystawe were both cancelled.

All five scheduled fixtures in Division One were washed out, meaning it’s as you were with Newport still leading the way with Cardiff their nearest challenger­s in second.

In 2nd XI West, Carmarthen Wanderers picked up their first victory of the season as they beat Swansea at Trinity Fields by nine wickets in the battle of the division’s bottom two.

Visitors Swansea were put in and skittled out for 89 with Simon Rogers bagging 3-20 while son Liam collected 2-8.

The hosts the knocked off the runs for the loss of just one wicket in 24.4 overs and were led home by an unbeaten 36 from Kevin Jones while Giles Thomas contribute­d 30.

In 2nd XI East Division, Sujeewa Senarathne’s ton helped Newport to a convincing 109-run victory over Panteg.

Senarathne hit 105 while Pravin De Silva (53) scored a half century as Newport scored 284-9, before bowling their visitors out for 175 in reply with Tom Josham bagging 3-47.
