BRONWYDD left it late as they claimed a narrow two-wicket win in a thrilling encounter with Gowerton in Division One of the Thomas Carroll Insurance South Wales Cricket Association.

Gowerton were the first to bat and posted a total of 150-8 – with Callum Eakins notching a top-score of 46 runs.

James Cale (57) hit a halfcentury in reply for Bronwydd who needed 22 off the final two overs – with Eakins taking 3-22 and Bevan Daniels claiming 3-32.

But David Dunfee thumped 16 runs off five balls as the hosts reached 153-8 with two balls to spare to seal a dramatic win.

The only other match played saw league leaders Tata Steel claim a winning draw at home to basement boys Maesteg Celtic.

With the game reduced to 35 overs due to the weather, Rohan Herbert thumped 59 runs while Kelvin Bartle added 62 as Tata set a target of 181-5.

Gareth Hopkins hit 48 in reply for Celtic whose chase came to an end at 113-3 to ensure they earned a share of the spoils. The remaining three matches in the top division were all called off without a ball being bowled as rain once again proved to be the winner.

Title-chasing Briton Ferry Steel were due to face strugglers Skewen while Cowbridge missed out on their clash with Llandysul.

Play was also cancelled at Dafen who were due to host Llanelli – with the sides facing Gowerton and Cowbridge respectively next weekend.

In Division Two, Merthyr Tydfil (249-9) claimed an emphatic 190-run triumph over Drefach (104) .
