WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE SWANS BLUNTING WOLVES’ CLAWS AT MOLINEUX

-

CLASS TELLS WAYNE Routledge’s goal was a thing of beauty as he collected a Dyer ball on his chest before blasting a volley past Carl Ikeme in the Wolves goal.

In what was otherwise a fairly even first half, that bit of magic separated the sides at the interval and showed just why it is so important that Swansea hold on to their players who have that ability to turn a match. IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT AYEW OF course, retaining the services of Andre Ayew is a priority for Swansea, and the visiting fans hardly wasted any time before they broke out into a chant in support of the Ghanaian.

But in what was a relatively quiet game for the £20m-rated 26-yearold – let’s hope that’s not because his mind is elsewhere – others including Routledge and Nathan Dyer were given the chance to have some of the limelight.

On the other hand, Ayew has proven time and again he only needs one half chance to strike – and that’s why Swansea need to keep him. SWANSEA’S DOMINANT MIDFIELD TALL and powerful duo Jack Cork and, in particular, Leroy Fer again looked strong in the middle of the park.

They are an imposing presence, and Fer – signed on a permanent deal from QPR over the summer – looks particularly good at the moment. Right now, that signing is Swansea’s best bit of business so far this transfer window. BARROW WAS EXCELLENT - AGAIN JUST as against Swindon on Wednesday, livewire Mo Barrow came off the bench to create a pair of goals.

He is full of running down that right flank, and must surely be giving Francesco Guidolin food for thought about whether he deserves to start ahead of Nathan Dyer. WORK TO BE DONE JUST as after the first half at Swindon, Swansea boss Francesco Guidolin will be under no illusions about the task facing his side this season after an opening 45 in which the visitors were perhaps fortunate to lead.

Yes, Swansea were much more clinical in the second period, but if they allow an opposition the kind of opportunities Wolves were gifted in the first half at Molineux it may well cost them against Premier League opposition.
