Martyrs maintain their unbeaten home record

-

MERTHYR took all three points without getting out of third gear against a Cirencester side who look likely to struggle this season on this evidence.

With Kayne Mclaggon and Curtis Mcdonald unavailable Merthyr gave starts to Ryan Prosser and Corey Jenkins.

They took the game to their visitors from the start and went deservedly ahead on 16 minutes through Ian Traylor’s drilled shot from 12 yards and this after he and Ryan Prosser had been denied.

In a rare forage forward Ross Langworthy struck the top of the Merthyr crossbar with a speculative shot on 21 minutes but it was Merthyr who remained on the front foot.

The second goal arrived two minutes before the break, Rhys Baggeridge smashing the ball into the roof of the net following a corner.

Merthyr failed to find their best form and Manager Gavin Williams was obviously frustrated but it is likely that complacency was the Martyrs most dangerous opposition on the day.

Jon Brown stylishly fired home the third on 69 minutes after Merthyr broke quickly down the right and despite a late frurry of corners from the visitors Merthyr rarely looked like conceeding. MERTHYR: Garner, Davies, Barrow (Scotcher 72), Evans (Bowen 72), Jones, Baggeridge, Jenkins (Wright 63), Brown, Prosser, Reffell, Traylor. Subs not used: Hutson, Bloom.
