Cardiff Met collect first point, but wait on goal

-

CARDIFF MET picked up their first point of the season as they earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw in their clash with fellow Welsh Premier League newcomers Cefn Druids at Park Hall.

Ashley Ruane proved a lively threat for the home side although it was the students who had the better of the second-half – but both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils in what proved to be a tight affair.

Aaron Bowen drilled an effort wide of the mark for the hosts early on before Charlie Crosby fizzed a cross into the box for Cardiff Met, but John Littlemore was unable to get the all-important touch on the delivery.

Neither side were able to gain full control in what proved to be an even contest, with Ruane having a shot deflected wide for Cefn Druids before the half-hour mark.

Following a scrappy end to the first half which ended goalless, Ruane again went close for the visitors after the restart as he forced Will Fuller into making a fine save.

Cardiff Met grew in confidence as the second half wore on – with Ben Bowler unleashing a 30-yard effort towards goal on 60 minutes.

Adam Roscrow had a penalty appeal waved away as the visitors went in search of a winner in the final stages.

But neither side could break the deadlock in the dying stages as the points were shared as Cardiff Met went a thord game without scoring.

Cardiff Met host reigning champions The New Saints in their next fixture on Wednesday, while Cefn Druids are at home to Connah’s Quay.
