First-half blitz to defeat Dragons

a tap-in at the far post after a mishit shot by Luke Guttridge.

The next goal came shortly after and it was Hawkins again with a powerful header, after a great delivery from Jordan Maguire-Drew’s corner.

Hawkins completed his hat-trick in first-half injury time by sending Jalal the wrong way from the penalty spot to put the game effectively out of the reach of the Dragons.

Wrexham manager Gary Mills expressed considerable unhappiness with the first-half display.

“We were not doing the job well enough and were second best and had to change at half-time,” said Mills.

And the visitors did have more of the ball in the second period, but the hosts were more threatening when they came forward,

Wrexham had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down midway through the half although television replays showed that the ball struck Andre Boucaud’s arm in the box.

In the 58th minute, Corey Whitely made his home debut for the Daggers, as he came on for Guttridge.

Maguire-Drew then cut in from a tight angle on the left and his shot was kept out well by Jalal.

Whitely was straight into the action in the 68th minute, after a couple of step-overs in the box, he then smashed the ball straight at Jalal.

Sub Whitely, again with a great bit of play, had room to take a shot from 20 yards out, however Jalal again added to his number of fine saves.

In the dying minutes of the game, Whitely unselfishly laid it off to Hawkins, Jalal again made a superb save and Matt Robinson then hit the rebound over the top.
