HOW CARDIFF RATED

-

BENA steady WILSON performance on what was a very your difficultdebut. Was day fortunateon which thatto make Beerens didn’t second capitalisehalf. on a bad flap in the 6 JAZZ RICHARDS Chris Gunter started the game on fire, but Richards did well to push him back as the game progressed. Still not offering much in attack, but a tough gig playing off the wrong flank. 6 LEE PELTIER A short game as he picked up another injury, but his superb sliding interception stopped Cardiff getting off to a poor start. Was fortunate to get away with a pull on Beerens as he fought off his knock. 6 SEAN MORRISON (CAPT) Missed a very good chance with a free header from a corner. Assured on the day he took over from David Marshall as captain. 6 MATTHEW CONNOLLY Very comfortable for the most part, but Cardiff need to be getting more out of him in terms of his distribution. There have not been as many of those line-breaking runs as we had hoped when the Bluebirds switched to the current formation. 6 PETER WHITTINGHAM Not his best game this season and his lack of pace was exposed a touch when called upon to get forward. He needs more runners if he is to play this quarter-back role successfully week-in, week-out. 5 JOE RALLS Wasn’t quite able to build on that superb display in the second half at Craven Cottage, though did make some good late runs into the box. Cardiff somehow need to get more support to the strikers from their midfield. 5 LEX IMMERS Looked a bit sloppy in possession, but it was encouraging to see him making those late runs into the box again. Had a couple of reasonable opportunities to score and, in many ways, his frustration in that sense sums up Cardiff’s so far this campaign. 6 ARON GUNNARSSON Worked very hard and got from box-to-box pretty well. His long throws were good, but he needs a more creative player alongside him if he is to play that No.10 role. 7 ANTHONY PILKINGTON A bitterly-frustrating afternoon. He is being asked to do far too much in an unfamiliar position at the moment. Some good runs, but not the clinical instinct. 5 SUBSTITUTES Bruno Manga (for Peltier, 31) Much better than in recent games. 7 Frederic Gounongbe (for Immers, 55) Craig Noone (Gunnarsson, 82).
