Early finish for the Red Bull divers
THE second da y of action in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series has been cancelled after for ecasters pr edicted windy conditions for the Blue Lagoon in Pembrokeshire. Organisers said the gusts of 33mph (53kph) which were forecast for this af - ternoon made it unsafe for the divers to compete fr om the 27.5m men’ s pla tform and the 20m women’s platform. They also said an earlier startwas not possible today due to the tides in the lagoon. The full fourrounds of the male competition and three rounds of the female competition wer e instead held yester - day, so th at a competition r esult could be determined for the championship. Australian wildcard Rhiannan Iffland came out on top for the thir d time this season in the women’s competition yesterday, while Canada’s Lysanne Richard came in second and Amer ica’s Cesilie Carlton took third place. Meanwhile, Michal Navratil from the Czech Republic took first place in the men’s ca tegory, w ith the UK’ s G ary Hunt taking second place and Andy Jones, from the US, taking third. Niki S tajkovic, spor ts dir ector, said: “The safety of the divers is our primary concern. “Conditions for S aturday wer e look - ing good, but S unday was pr edicted to bring gusts peaking a t 33mph (53k ph) which clearly surpasses the thr eshold for safe diving.” Full r efunds h ave been offer ed to Sunday ticket -holders after org anisers said they could not be accommoda ted on site yesterday.
