BEAUTY QUEEN’S GCSE PROJECT NOW A BUSINESS

BEAUTY queens often have flawless skin, perfect makeup, a great tan and shiny, bouncy hair – all while radiating an easy confidence. But what’s their secret? Well according to Miss Teen Great Britain finalist Erin White and her mum Laura – who held more than 10 titles as a beauty queen – success is built upon one simple ingredient: Epsom salts.

The mother and daughter duo have started their own bus iness called Naturiol Beauty, creating natural beauty and bath products rich in Epsom salts – which they say is the secret to pageant smooth skin and combating cellulite. But it all started with 15-year-old Erin’s GCSE business project. Laura, who was crowned Miss Penarth in 1991, said: “Erin had a GCSE business study project to write about making and marketing a new product, so we decided it would be based on natural bath products.

“I have always bathed in Epsom salts, especially when I was competing, because it’s detoxifying, combats cellulite and smooths your skin.

“It’s very difficult to buy natural Epsom salts with pure essential oils added, so I used to create my own little mixture.

“When we were putting Erin’s GCSE project together, we decided to actually give it a go and start our own business.

“We chose the Welsh name for natural – Naturiol, because people tell me Erin is a natural beauty.”

By today Laura and Erin have created their own online business, specialising in natural mineral bathing salts, butter bath melts and body buff salt scrubs – all made without any controversial microbeads.

“Erin designed the labels and we worked together on the fragrance combinations by taking lots of baths to see which ones we liked the best,” Laura said.

“Lots of friends have given me feedback that using the bath melt cubes has really helped their eczema and psoriasis and other dry skin conditions.

“Beauty queens who have also tried the products said using the body scrub before a spray tan made their tan last longer.”

And if the new business wasn’t enough to keep the pair busy, Erin has now also reached the final of Miss Junior Teen Great Britain and will be taking to the stage to compete against 40 other girls next month.
