LITTLE Gruffydd Jones is taking on two fun runs to raise money for people suffering from rare cancers.

The four-year-old told his mum he wanted to raise money in memory of his grandfather Alan, who died from a rare form of the disease at the age of 49.

Gruffydd lives in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, with his parents Stephanie and Adrian.

His mum said: “He loves all kinds of sport and plays tennis and rugby all the time.

“He’s also a very kind little boy who loves helping others.”

Gruffydd, a pupil at Llandybie Primary School, is raising money for Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff, one of the largest specialist cancer centres in the UK.

The centre treats more than 1.5 million people with cancer from South East Wales every year.

His grandfather ceived treatment at centre before he died.

Mum Stephanie, a civil servant, said: “He was in and out of Velindre towards the end of his life and they gave him such excellent treatment.

“Gruffydd is still so young but he wanted to do something to show his appreciation.

“Running is his way of saying a big ‘thank you’ to the hospital.”

Gruffydd took part in the Iron Kids run in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, on September 17.

His next challenge is the Cardiff University Family Fun Run today, where he was due to run 2.4km around Cardiff Civic Centre.

His mum set up a fundraising page for Gruffydd, with the aim of raising £150 but he has since managed to raise £400.

“He has had so much support from friends, family and the local community,” she said.

“He’s overjoyed to have beaten his target and he’s hoping to raise even more before his next run.”
