How they rated

- BY CHRIS WATHAN

LUKASZ FABIANSKI

Didn’t have an awful lot to deal with before being left exposed for Liverpool’s two goals. Dealt with crosses well.

7

ANGEL RANGEL

Determined showing and linked well on overlap and in triangles, but made two decisive mistakes as rustiness proved costly.

6

MIKE VAN DER HOORN

Another impressive outing for the big Dutchman, even if he did rush distribution as game wore on. Good strength and awareness.

7

JORDI AMAT

Amat’s best outing of the season where he didn’t allow rushes of blood to the head nor loss of concentration undermine an aggressive and composed display.

8

KYLE NAUGHTON

Some good signs from Naughton going forward as he linked well and cleverly and helped the press, but was targeted by Liverpool defensively where they found joy.

6

LEON BRITTON

Did what he does best, offering the outlet for pass and harassing opponents and again proved key influence. Made way as he began to blow.

7

JACK CORK

Better than last week’s outing as he led the pressing from midfield to not allow Liverpool to settle and looked more comfortable in role than previously, but ended up being overrun.

7

LEROY FER

Continued right-time, right-place knack and pounced on plenty of loose balls and gave physical presence, but faded badly after break after such an outlay of effort.

7

WAYNE ROUTLEDGE

A standard mixed, frustrating outing from Routledge. Used intelligence and work-rate to cover well and get in right positions, but consistently delivered poor final ball.

6

BORJA BASTON

An encouraging first start from the record-signing who pressed well, worked hard and showed good movement including for opener, yet still guilty of missing two chances.

7

STAR MAN GYLFI SIGURDSSON

Put it all out there for the team, pressing tirelessly and delivering moments of true quality that deserved better finishing. After an uninspiring start to the season, this was more like the Iceman of old.
