WE BIN THIS MANY CLOTHES EVERY 90 SECONDS!

- VICTORIA JONES Reporter victoria.jones@walesonline.co.uk

THIS one-tonne pile of clothes to show how much is wasted was the centrepiece of the launch of Cardiff Fashion Week 2016.

The mountain at The Capitol Centre demonstrates how many unwanted clothes are needlessly thrown away every 90 seconds in the UK.

Lesley Griffiths AM, Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs, was at the event to help encourage people to think about the environmental impact of their clothes.

Paula Abbandonato, organiser of Cardiff Fashion Week, said: “Cardiff Fashion Week is a platform to celebrate all that is great about Welsh fashion and design.”

Cardiff Fashion Week runs to next Saturday, October 29, and, sponsored by Motorline Maserati, will showcase the very best design and retail in Wales.

The highlight of the week will be the catwalk shows and designer village at Cardiff Masonic Hall next Saturday. Taking part will be designers and retailers from across Wales who are using the event as a platform to showcase their collections to a UK audience.

Throughout the week Love Your Clothes will also be partnering with Cardiff Fashion Week, holding fashion-related events across the Welsh capital.

Jamie Perry, from Love Your Clothes, said: “We are delighted to be collaborating with Cardiff Fashion Week and putting on a week of fun, free, family friendly activities for Love Your Clothes Cardiff.

“It is a great opportunity to get our message out there and encourage people to think about the life of their clothes.”

Tickets are available for the Cardiff Fashion Week catwalk shows on October 29 at www. visitcfw.co.uk
