MY CLOSE SHAVE FOR SICK KIDS’ WIGS

-

ACARDIFF hairdresser’s is inviting customers to shave their heads to make wigs for sick children. Bauhaus salon is donating locks to the Little Princess Trust trust charity after being inspired by a group of customers.

Nedji Nasufova, an architecture student at Cardiff University, is urging others to put their trimmed tresses to good use next time they go to the hairdresser’s – after having a dramatic haircut and filming the whole thing live.

The 21-year-old, who is originally from Bulgaria, joined four other friends at the city centre salon to fill five large bags with hair earmarked for the Little Princess Trust.

The UK-based charity provides real hair wigs for free to children suffering with hair loss.

One Direction star Harry Styles recently teamed up with them to donate his famous c curls.

Jon Aherne, manager at Bauhaus salon at the Friary in Cardiff, tied Nedji’s hair, which had grown to 65cm over several years, into plaits before shearing them off into a number zero s shave.

The salon has now teamed up with the charity to give away free haircuts for those daring e enough to donate several locks.

“I’ve had long hair all my life and it was my favourite part of me,” said Nedji, who lives in Cathays.

“My hair had always made me happy, so I thought it could make someone else really happy, and to give a self-esteem boost to a child going through a difficult time seemed a good use for what would usually be swept up and put into the bin.”

Nedji streamed the challenge on Facebook Live and the video, where she whoops, cheers and giggles as each strand falls to the floor, has been seen more than 6,000 times.

“Society says women have to have long hair to be feminine, and I hope people can look at me and see that’s not the case,” she said.

“My aim is to inspire all these kids who have sadly lost their hair and show them that wearing wigs is not a necessity and society can accept them the way they are. I hope I can empower them to have the confidence to wear a wig if they want to, or to go wig-less.

“I’m looking forward to growing my hair back so I can donate it again.”

Monica Glass, charity manager at Little Princess Trust, said: “Nedji’s video will hopefully inspire more people – the fact her hair was more than 65cm long is an even bigger bonus for us as the longer the hair, the better.”
