GO FOR GARETH Anscombe must start at 10, says Barry

-

WALES’ greatest fly-half Barry John believes Gareth Anscombe must be chosen ahead of Dan Biggar for Saturday’s opening Autumn international with Australia.

Barry, commonly known as The King, argues Blues star Anscombe will pose more of a threat to the Wallaby defence and can create space for George North, Jonathan Davies and Leigh Halfpenny to exploit.

He also advocates new Ospreys young gun Sam Davies for a place on the replacements’ bench.

That way, according to Barry, Wales will have a greater cutting edge at half-back. He believes the coveted 10 jersey has been a problem area in recent times.

Writing in his column for Wales on Sunday today, Barry says: “Biggar’s contribution has been enormous, but you cannot just keep thinking of what happened in the past.

“The fact is Biggar cannot hold down the Ospreys shirt any more, with Davies having emerged.

“In my view, Biggar doesn’t pose enough of a personal threat to opponents at the moment. I just feel Anscombe brings something different to the backline, is sharp, bubbly and I like the way he mixes his game up. With Rhys Webb inside him I feel Wales would have a nine-ten axis capable of dictating the tempo.”
