Welsh Miss Earth wins swimsuit eco crown

-

A WELSH woman has won “best in swimsuit” in the Miss Earth finals.

Charlotte Hitchman, 19, competed in the international pageant on October 29 in the Philippines.

The teenager won “best in swimsuit” against 83 other girls from around the world.

Charlotte also won the Earth Warrior Award for her dedication to environmental causes.

Now the beauty queen has landed back in her hometown of Neath Port Talbot, and said she had an absolutely amazing time and learnt a lot.

She said: “I don’t think I have any words for the experience.

“It’s taken me a while to come back down to Earth!”

Miss Earth sees girls compete from all over the world representing their countries in a grand final.

The competition focuses on environmental causes, with each “Miss” promoting an environmental cause from their home country.

Charlotte entered the competition after she was inspired by last year’s Miss Earth Wales, Lara Stephen, and the work she had done.

She was crowned Miss Earth Wales in May and then had nearly five months to prepare for the three-week final in October.

In the meantime, Charlotte had to post online for the Eco Warrior Award.

She visited wind farms and held workshops for children about making recycled paper and then posted about it on Instagram and Twitter.

This year’s Miss Earth winner was Katherine Espin from Ecuador.
